Calosso

Land of Moscato d'Asti and Barbera

Calosso, village of wonders

Perched on the rolling hills of Monferrato, Calosso is a hidden gem in the Asti area. It captivates visitors with its stunning landscapes, rich history, and renowned food and wine traditions.

The vineyards extend like a never-ending embrace, painting the landscape with the changing hues of the seasons, while the ancient village preserves corners of pure poetry.

Casa Irene and the Crotin

Welcome to Calosso and Casa Irene, a museum housing items that the people of Calosso wished to preserve. Beneath the museum lies the Crotin, a warehouse where all kinds of items were stored. The Crotin at Casa Irene is one of the most beautiful in the village, boasting a history spanning two or three hundred years. Calosso is a beautiful village, ready to welcome visitors from all over the world.

The historical heart of the city is dominated by the imposing medieval castle which, with its austere charm, tells stories of a past steeped in feudal affairs. Cobbled streets lead all around to churches that are true treasure troves of faith and art.

However, in Calosso, it is not only the history that captivates visitors, but also the authentic flavours that characterise this land.

Wine is the undisputed king here: Moscato d'Asti and Barbera boast intense aromas and unmistakable notes.

The highlight of the year is the "Rapulè" fair, that celebrates the grape harvest and opens the "crutin" – the small underground cellars where the finest wines are stored – to the public.

Museum of Future Memories

Hidden away in a small deconsecrated church along the streets of Calosso is the small Museum of Future Memories. An ambitious project that required collective participation in the collection of documents, testimonies and videos related to the history of the village. The idea is to derive a sense of belonging to the land from this heritage and pass it on to future generations. One of the most intriguing contributions is the Plastic House, a permanent installation that reminds us of the importance of material not being dispersed in the environment, but rather of it being reused, as in this case, with creativity.
