Rosignano Monferrato: among Infernot, truffles and landscapes portrayed by Morbelli

Truffle hunting and the places of the painter Angelo Morbelli
Discover the area in the open air by following in the footsteps of Angelo Morbelli, one of the masters of Italian Divisionism. He had a summer residence at Villa Maria in the hamlet of Colma for half a century. The meadows and woods in this area conceal the precious and renowned truffle, which intoxicates with its intense aroma and tantalises all palates.
For centuries, this has been a land of exquisite wines, most notably Grignolino and Barbera, as shown by the rows of vines that colour the landscape and the Infernot, underground cellars hand-dug into the "Pietra da Cantoni" rock, true works of art of rural know-how. The wine-growing tradition is also enhanced by the Rosignano Wine and Viticulture Showcase.
A journey through open-air museums and traditions to discover
Other unmissable itineraries include the Scattered Peasant Museum, which features open-air installations of agricultural tools from the past, both large and small; the Trifulau Trail in the Ghenza Valley, which enhances the close connection with the land; and the Geological Trail, “The Tropical Seas of Pietra da Cantoni rock”, which runs along a series of open-air stages.
Finally, the village of Rosignano Monferrato offers plenty of opportunities for cycling and trekking enthusiasts.

The heritage of the Infernot
Rosignano, in the Monferrato Alessandrino area, is famous for its "Infernot", which are underground cellars dug into the "pietra da cantone", a rock unique to the area. These cellars were used to store wine thanks to their constant temperature and are now a cultural heritage site. Visible pickaxe marks and construction dates on the walls are evidence of the local farming tradition.
