Val Sarmassa Nature Reserve

The Val Sarmassa Reserve is an oasis of biodiversity that can be visited all year round. It is a journey of discovery, exploring the "Green Sea", as defined by the writer Davide Lajolo. But why "Green Sea"? Because in prehistoric times, there was a sea here, and you can find fossils and seashells in the rocky stretches of the trails that bear witness to that era.

Discover the Val Sarmassa Nature Reserve

Vaglio Serra is not only a nature reserve, but also a land of fine wines, being the cradle of vineyards that produce some of the region's best wines, including Barbera d'Asti and Moscato d'Asti, which are known for their quality and unique flavour.

The village's winemaking tradition has been passed down through the generations, with great care taken at every stage of the production process.

The result is a wine that tells the story and the soul of the area that inspired the novels of writer Davide Lajolo, who was born in these very lands which became the undisputed protagonists of his literary production.

The Yew Tree Garden

The village of Vaglio Serra dates back to the Middle Ages, when the surrounding lands belonged to the Marquises of Monferrato. The village is home to the Palazzo Barone Crova, built in 1700, which was the home of the noble Crova family for centuries. The village's crowning glory is the so called Giardino dei Tassi (the Yew Tree Garden), a hanging garden containing some of the oldest sea yews in Piedmont. In ancient times, the yew tree was a symbol of protection and eternity, and it is thought that monks planted them to leave a legacy for future generations.
